How I Contributed:

This project was one I was deeply involved in from the initial concept design through to the final rendering. I approached it with a profound sense of respect and responsibility—these men sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we all share, and I wanted that truth to be powerfully conveyed throughout this memorial. This was more than just a veterans’ memorial; it was a tribute to those who paid the ultimate price. In the early design stages, I even titled the plaza “Defenders of Freedom Plaza.”

My design concepts sought to blend the themes of light and dark, life and death, and to express ideas of flame, flower, fear, and freedom through a symbolic central art piece. After multiple iterations and refinements in collaboration with the county commission, that original vision ultimately took form in the figure of a saluting soldier, projected behind the battlefield cross—a lasting representation of honor, sacrifice, and remembrance.

Goal of the Project:

Morton County Courthouse’s existing memorial was in need of a renovation to address it’s aging and outdated plaques. Our task was to help envision what a new memorial and plaza space could look like so that funds could be raised to honor those that died in US involved conflicts who had lived in Morton County.
